Week of February 14, 2010
Howdy Howdy Texas Music Roadshow listeners! We just got back from another crazy week on the road. This week we went to Schroeder Hall in Goliad Texas. If you're not sure where Goliad is, you're not alone. Goliad is a small town down by Victoria, and when I say small I mean its nicest restaurant is the picnic tables at the Shell station. But there is something very special about Goliad; it is home to the second oldest dancehall in Texas. Schroeder Hall was constructed in 1890. Some very famous names have played there, Elvis Presley, Buck Owens and Hank Thompson to name a few. When I was researching venues I wanted to go, I put Schroeder Hall at the top of my list because it's just a really cool place with so much history.

When I found out Kyle Park was playing at Schroeder Hall, I knew we were headed down to Goliad. I just didn't realize how "down" we would actually be going, it was a six hour drive to Schroeder Hall! On the way to Goliad we stopped at George's in Waco for lunch. I have been going to George's ever since Pat Green wrote a song about the place and the greatness behind the Big O. Brother Josh was very insistent on stopping there for lunch, which was kind of weird because he's usually pretty laid back and just along for the ride. I quickly figured out why, Josh was hellbent on having a few "Big O's" and coming between Josh and his beer is like coming between The Angry Sound Guy and an enchilada. The Angry Sound Guy ordered the only Mexican dish on the menu, he has a problem.

After lunch we got back on the road. We only got about thirty miles down the road before Jessica and The Angry Sound Guy started hounding Josh about stopping at Dairy Queen for a Blizzard. So, Josh stopped; we all got Blizzards and the Angry Sound Guy took his usual smoke break while we went through the drive-thru. After our little DQ stop we were finally on our way again. Eventually we made it to Goliad, and quickly realized there is nothing there. We thought we were lost until we stumbled on a white barn-looking building in the middle of After we set up our sound equipment we had a couple of hours to kill. Usually we go to a restaurant during that time, but seeing as there were no restaurants around we had nothing to do. I remembered we had some golf clubs in the car. So Josh, the Angry Sound Guy and I played golf for about two hours in the pasture that surrounds Schroeder Hall, while a displeased Jessica slept in the car. She's not really into sports of any kind and it was around twenty degrees outside. I was surprised, to say the least, when the Angry Sound Guy blew Josh and I both out of the water. I don't know where he acquired his skills but he is really good!

We had to quit playing golf, because brother Josh and I were tired of getting beat. We headed inside to talk to Kyle Park, that guy was so cool! I sat down with Kyle before the show and talked to him about growing up and how he got into music. You don't want to miss this interview!!

I looked outside before Curtis Grimes (who opened and played a great set!) took the stage and a line had already formed half way around the building. We were all wondering where these people had come from. It was like the scene from The Field of Dreams, hundreds of cars all coming to this pasture in the middle of nowhere. Kyle came on around 10:30, and what a show he put on!! We are so excited for everybody to hear this one! If you enjoy live concerts but can't make it to the shows, listen to the Texas Music Roadshow. If you enjoy live shows and want to go to a really cool venue, go to Schroeder Hall!

Until next week,
