Hello TMR listeners!
This week we traveled to Lewisville, Texas and recorded a show at a little place called Hat Tricks. We were there to catch a Brandon Jenkins concert. Brandon is a talented musician and an amazing songwriter!
Lewisville is only about 30 minutes from Dallas, so we didn't have much of a drive. Brother Josh, Jessica and I got to Hat Tricks at about 4:00pm. The Angry Sound Guy had to meet us up there, because we told him that we were going to eat there and that was NOT ok with him. We were told they were famous for their pizza and we wanted to try it. The Angry Sound guy was not having that, I believe his exact words were "I don't care if their pizza is made of gold; I'm going to El Fenix." So he stopped and ate at El Fenix by himself, which is a pretty common thing...poor guy. I don't understand how someone can eat there every day, don't get me wrong it's good but I couldn't live off of it like he does.
When the Angry Sound Guy arrived at Hat Tricks we started setting up our equipment. When we go to record a show we usually arrive between 4-5 hours before they perform. We do this so that we can hook our equipment up before the band does sound check. Normally we are the only people in there besides the band and the people who work at the venue, but this time we met the Robinsons. They are very nice people and they are huge fans of the Texas Country and Red Dirt scene. They love this music so much they go to 3-4 concerts a week!! You can't miss them; they have cowboy hats with tons of signatures on them. People like Willie Nelson, Randy Rogers and their personal favorite Jason Boland have all signed their hats. The Robinsons have amazing stories to tell, but more importantly they are just really nice people.
Not too long after we finished eating our pizza, Brandon and the band arrived. Brandon's about 6'3 and covered in tattoos, just so you can get an idea of how big he actually is, I believe he said he wore a size 16 shoe!! He is a big guy, so when you first meet him it's easy to be a little intimated. But Brandon is such a nice and down earth guy!!
I sat down with Brandon around 9:30pm right before he took stage at Hat Tricks. I realized pretty quickly into the interview what a great guy he is. My interview with Brandon is one you won't want to miss. He had no problem sharing his thought process and the meaning behind some of the great songs he has written.
After the interview Brandon went on stage. We had some friends make it out to the show and we all had a great time. Jason "the shot guy" and Josh's buddy Nick Vera were there, so as you can imagine things got a little out of control. Jason had trays of shots coming one after the other and Nick was just loaded. Tune in this week for Brandon Jenkins; this is a show you don't want to miss!
Till Next Time,
