Hey TMR listeners!

It's been another crazy week! This time we are bringing you Johnny Cooper in concert! Talk about an exciting show...We recorded Johnny in Denton, Texas at Rockin' Rodeo. This place is a hot spot for UNT students, so I'm sure you can imagine how excited the Angry Sound Guy was.

Unfortunately we arrived a little late to Rockin' Rodeo because the traffic on 35 was so bad. When we got there Johnny and his band were already doing sound check, so we all took a seat and watched Johnny work his magic. Johnny is a lot different than most of the artists in this "Texas/Red Dirt scene." He has a very unique sound and a stage presence that can't be missed.

So after Johnny's sound check I met Lloyd Banks, the owner and manager of Rockin' Rodeo. Lloyd is such a cool guy and he has really made a name for himself in the bar industry. He first opened up the "The Groovy Mule" in 1997 in Denton. I was a frequent visitor of the Groovy Mule, I never missed a Jack Ingram show at the Mule...EVER! The Groovy Mule was one of the first places in town to be both successful as a dance club and live music venue. Whether dancing to hip hop music all night long is your thing, or you prefer to sit and watch your favorite band play, the Groovy Mule had a night for you. Lloyd eventually sold The Groovy Mule in 2004, but he has three other bars (two in Denton and one in Abilene) that live on and are modeled after the mule. Rockin' Rodeo is a great place to see a live show and Lloyd does a great job of running the place.

When all of our equipment was set up, we decided to go get some food. We walked over to this little restaurant next door to the Rockin' Rodeo. Unfortunately, for the angry sound guy, they didn't have Mexican food. If we do not go to a Mexican food restaurant where he knows exactly what he wants, the ordering process can just be a beating. After looking over the menu long and hard the angry sound guy decided on wings. He asked the lady what was the hottest wings they had. She responded, "the atomic wings". Then he said ok can I get 15 lemon pepper...That's The Angry Sound Guy for you.

After lunch we walked back over to RR and the drinking ensued. We had a surprise appearance by Jason "the shot guy", so we got a little carried away. He got his name for good reason...Every time you turn around there he is with 4 or 5 shots. Whether they are soco and limes or straight shots of Wild Turkey, he loves for everybody to partake in the madness. Also you can't say no because he gets his feelings hurt.

Well, enough about our drinking; let me give you a quick summary of my interview with Johnny. Johnny Cooper is such a down to earth guy and so much fun to talk to. It was very interesting to learn how someone his age and at his stage of life views the lifestyle of a musician. After the interview he took the stage at Rockin' Rodeo and played an amazing concert. Don't miss the show this week; a great interview and an incredible concert from Johnny Cooper!!

Thanks for listening,
